More than 60,000 daily riders make use of the FREE mall shuttles that traverse the mall's 16 block length. Completed in 1982, the mall connects the trendy LODO area to the State Capital center at the southeast end of the mall. Primarily a pedestrian mall, the Regional Transportation District operate the free shuttles, which provide connections at each end of the mall with local express motorcoach service to Metro Denver's outlying suburbs.
Romantic evenings can be enjoyed by hailing one of the horse drawn hansom cabs that travel the mall, transporting the riders to one of the many fine restaurants that line the mall. Most of Downtown Denver's attractions are within 4 blocks of the mall, and over 6000 hotel rooms are within 2 blocks. The mall, designed by I.M. Pei, offers a welcome respite from the constant drone of the automobile, and truly serves as a centerpiece for Denver.
