The town of Auraria was founded by William Russell Green in 1858. Just 3 weeks later, William Larimer plated Denver across the Cherry Creek. By 1860, Auraria was incorporated into Denver. The neighborhood is now home to the Auraria Campus, home to Community College of Denver, Metropolitan State College, and the University of Colorado at Denver.
