Denver's first Union Station opened in June, 1881. The original structure burned in 1894 and was rebuilt immediately. The stone clock tower was removed in 1914, leaving the building much as it is today. Until 1958, the station saw more traffic than Stapleton Airport. In 2002, the process to develop a new master development plan was instituted.
The Regional Transportation District will develop the station and adjacent land into a multimodal transportation center while preserving the original architecture. In addition, other development will include residential, commercial, and retail development. Union Station will become an extremely bright spot in Denver future.
